Rick Wellman is a celebrity hair colorist, salon owner, author, and industry truth-teller with more than four decades of experience shaping beauty from Ohio to New York City. He was originally inspired to enter the beauty industry after witnessing the emotional impact of a hair disaster — a moment that revealed how deeply hair affects confidence, identity, and how people move through the world. Beginning his career in 1982, Rick went on to train with leading names and institutions across Hawaii, Scotland, London, Hollywood, and Toronto, building a foundation rooted in artistry, education, and transformation.
After moving to New York, Rick built a dynamic career spanning Broadway wig work, hair color campaigns, celebrity clientele, and luxury salon leadership. He has helped launch and grow major salon brands connected to Sports Club LA and Equinox, while maintaining a nearly 28-year presence at Rockefeller Center through multiple salon evolutions. Today, Rick is once again a salon owner with his trusted team at that same iconic location — a full-circle moment he describes as “meant to be.” He is also writing a book that blends his glamorous, colorful, and often outrageous journey as a celebrity colorist with an unfiltered look at the beauty industry’s illusions, encouraging consumers to think beyond the box.
